Chilli hybrid CH 27: PAU, Telangana-based seed company ink pact
Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) inked a pact with Harilal Seeds Private Limited, Secunderabad, Telangana, for the commercial seed production of chilli hybrid CH 27.
The memorandum of association (MoA) was signed by Dr GS Manes, Director of Research, PAU, and Dr Rajesh Mishra, director of research, Harilal Seeds Private Limited.
Dr Manes and Dr Tarsem Singh Dhillon, head, Department of Vegetable Science, congratulated Dr Salesh Jindal, Principal Vegetable Breeder, for the commercialisation of the chilli hybrid.
Dr Jindal said CH-27 was a high-yielding hybrid with multiple resistances to leaf curl virus, fruit rot and root knot nematodes.
“The plants are spreading and continue to bear fruits for long time. Its fruits are light green, long and medium in pungency. The hybrid is suitable for powder making and processing purposes. CH- 27 is a popular hybrid among growers due to its wider adaptability in the country,” he said.
Dr Khushdeep Dharni, associate director, Technology Marketing and IPR cell, said the PAU-developed vegetable hybrids were popular among various stakeholders such as seed companies and vegetable growers.
The TMIPR Cell was making efforts in a big way to commercialise vegetable hybrids and take technologies developed in PAU fields to the markets so as to benefit various stakeholders, he added.
