Chaos erupted at a court complex on Monday afternoon when a young couple, who had married against their family’ wishes, sought legal protection. Members of the woman’s family, who were present, accused the man of forcibly taking their daughter. They allegedly physically assaulted him and created a ruckus. Police personnel present at the scene intervened and managed to rescue the couple, sending them inside the courtroom while they stood guard outside to prevent any further disruption.

Later, a large police party arrived at the scene. In a dramatic turn of events, the girl’s father pretended to have faced serious health issue by strangling himself in the court complex, saying he had been brutally attacked by the man. However, when an ambulance was called and he was taken out of the court on a stretcher, he immediately got up and walked away. According to ASI Sukhpal Singh, in-charge of the Court Complex police post, the situation was eventually brought under control, and all parties were persuaded to leave peacefully. The couple had earlier filed a petition seeking protection from the Sessions Court.
