Potholed roads in various parts of the city have become a nightmare for commuters as the authorities concerned have failed to pay any attention. These potholes at different locations have not even been filled on temporary basis.

Many roads in Giaspura, Dugri, Haibowal, old city areas, Bahadur Ke Road areas, industrial areas, roads near the MC Zone C office and other places are crying for attention. Even potholes on Jeevan Nagar Road, Dugri police station to cremation ground road, Deepak Cinema Road and others are being ignored.

A resident of Dugri, Varinder Pathak, said, “The stretch from Dugri police station towards cremation ground is in deplorable condition. The broken stretch poses threat to commuters. We appeal to the civic body authorities to ensure repair of the road at the earliest.”

The Municipal Corporation (MC) had recently filled potholes on several roads with soil and by placing tiles. The soil washed away during recent rain.

An advocate, Gaganpreet Singh, said, “The authorities concerned should ensure timely repair of all broken roads in the city. After the recent shower, potholes have increased and are not being repaired by the MC. Potholes on Lodhi Club Road, Ferozepur Road and others stretches should be repaired at the earliest.”

The councillor from Ward No. 2, Gurmail Singh Jajji, said, “Roads are broken in several parts of my ward. The MC has not taken any steps to fill potholes that are an open invitation to mishaps. The civic body has even failed to replace broken covers of sewer manholes.”

Residents of Giaspura have staged many protests in past one month due to poor condition of roads. The commuters face a lot of inconvenience while passing through broken roads in Giaspura.

Notably, the MC’s hotmix plant where material is prepared for the patchwork on potholed roads remains closed during the rainy season. However, the MC did not repair potholes on city roads before the rainy season.

Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu could not be contacted for his comments on the issue.
