Bhadaur House residents bear brunt of choked drain, authorities in slumber

There seems to be no end to the woes of the people living around Bhadaur House due to the Ganda Nullah passing from the area. The unbearable stench and stink coming out of the nullah gives a tough time to the people living nearby and those coming in frequent business trips as one of the largest wholesale cloth markets is located here.

A huge pile of trash, including plastic waste, can be seen been dumped into the nullah thus blocking the drain. The drain overflows in just one spell of rain, making the life of people living nearby a living hell.

The small bridge behind the Hotel City Heart is in a shambles, giving an open invitation to mishaps.

Apart from residential dwellings, a huge market, especially the wholesale cloth market, is located at Bhadaur House and traders from northern states come here for business.

“I have been coming here for buying clothes from the wholesale market for years, but nothing has changed about the market. The foul smell still welcomes you every time and things become unbearable during the rainy season. Ludhiana needs to pay attention towards this part of the city which is one of the oldest yet thriving and people from different parts of the country come here for business purposes,” said Gagandeep Singh, a wholesale cloth merchant from Ambala.

Sanjay Sood, a shopkeeper from the Bhadaur House area, said the irony of the situation was that the MC office is located a few meters away from the area, but nobody seem to be bothered about the pathetic condition of this area.

“Earlier, we used to take our clients to the nearby eating joints for their meals but due to the insanitary conditions and foul smell, we now prefer to take them to the Civil Lines area,” added another shopkeeper.
