Dasehra was celebrated with religious fervour in city areas. The festival symbolises the victory of good over evil.

Around 40 fairs were held at various places to mark the occasion. The 125-ft tall effigy of Ravana, tallest in the state, was burnt at the Daresi Ground. A huge rush of people was witnessed at the venue.

The Dasehra fairs were organised at Daresi, Upkar Nagar, Aggar Nagar, Sarabha Nagar, Dugri and other areas.

“This year, I saw the entire Ramlila and witnessed the Dasehra celebrations in the city. The festival depicts the richness of our cultural heritage. Everyone should take lessons from the festival and draw inspiration from the life of Lord Ram,” said Vikas, a resident of Aggar Nagar.

Meanwhile, another trend was observed this year. Some families or residents celebrated Dasehra in private ceremonies in their colonies by burning small effigies of Ravana. Small ready-made effigies of Ravana, which were sold in markets, were in demand in the city this time.

Kunal, a shopkeeper from Ghumar Mandi, said miniature Ravana effigies were hit among people this year as many people preferred private celebrations, instead of going to fairs and big gatherings to avoid huge rush. Priced between Rs 500 to Rs 3,000, these effigies were liked by several city residents.
