ASI targeted by cyber crooks, loses Rs 4.65L
Cyber criminals hacked the mobile phone of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Jasbir Singh, posted at the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP)-1, and transferred Rs 4,65,530 from his three bank accounts.
ASI Jasbir Singh said the suspects hacked his mobile and transferred the money from his Punjab National Bank accounts through various transactions.
The cyber crime cell of the Ludhiana police has registered a case against the unidentified miscreants based on the victim’s complaint.
The ASI said during investigation, it was found that the suspects were from Kolkata. The police were investigating the matter and would arrest them soon.
“When I was using an online app to pay some instalment, the OTP was sent to someone else’s number. He called the number several times but no one answered the calls. Later, it was discovered that money had been transferred from his OD limit account to an account in Odisha. The money was then transferred from the Odisha account to a bank account in Kolkata. The cyber thief withdrew the money from Kolkata,” the complainant said.
According to sources, the cyber thief entered a police officers’ group and hacked mobile phones of some police personnel, including Jasbir Singh, through the Kisan app. The other police personnel got their mobile phones frozen, but the ASI delayed the same and lost the money.
