Accusing the Punjab Government of allegedly trying to shield Malerkotla Quran sacrilege case convict Delhi MLA Naresh Yadav, office-bearers of several Muslim outfits today urged the Centre to initiate a probe into the matter.

Besides demanding resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, members of the Muslim outfits urged all their counterparts associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to shun their posts and join the protest launched against anti-social elements who had tried to disrupt peace.

The protesters also burnt an effigy of AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal.

Zahida Suleman, halqa incharge, SAD, alleged that the AAP Government, acting on the instance of Kejriwal, had tried to influence Mohammad Ashraf, the complainant in the case against AAP MLA Yadav, a fortnight before the final verdict pronounced. Suleman appreciated that the court did not bow before wishes of the government and found Yadav guilty.

Earlier, addressing a gathering at Delhi Gate, members of the Muslim outfits said AAP had no right to retain status of a political party as its leaders had been found involved in immoral and unethical activities.

Meanwhile, an application filed by Yadav for suspension of his conviction has been suspended by the Additional District and Sessions Judge Parminder Singh Grewal.
