Over three weeks after Aam Aadmi Party Councillor Vikas Krishan Sharma was elected president of the municipal council, the charge of the office was handed over to the incumbent by the executive officer during a function held at Town Hall here on Tuesday.

The charge was given in compliance with the extant instructions of the Local Bodies Department where the appointment of the president was notified recently.

As many as 31 months after the constitution of the state government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, it is the first time that an AAP councillor has assumed charge as regular president of the council.

He called upon the office-bearers of various organisations to be a part of the administration by contributing to the development of their localities.

“Now that I have been entrusted with this important responsibility I will try my best to make the functioning of the council memorable. All valued suggestions and ideas would be discussed in house for proper implementation and officials concerned will be asked to come true to expectations of residents of the town,” Sharma said, assuring that efforts will be made to fetch adequate grants with the help of AAP legislator Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra.

Sharma reiterated that suggestions and recommendations of all councillors, irrespective of political allegiance, would be equally valued.
