As many as 208 fresh cases of Covid-19 were reported in the district today. Besides, five persons succumbed to the virus.
Of the 208 fresh cases, 76 were persons with influenza-like illness who visited the flu corner, 31 were identified during contact tracing and 22 patients reported at OPDs. Besides, 26 healthcare workers and four travellers were among the fresh cases. Three patients were suffering from severe acute respiratory infection (SARI). At present, 31 patients are on ventilator in the district.
Consumer Forum closed till September 3 as district president tests positive
President of District Consumer Forum Kuldeep Kumar Karir has tested positive for Covid-19. All employees concerned of the Consumer Forum have been asked to home-quarantine themselves for seven days. The Forum will remain closed till Sept 3, during which no hearing will take place.
Those who died of Covid today were a 59-year-old man from Mohar Singh Nagar, a 75-year-old man from Maharaj Nagar, a 65-year-old man from Shiv Colony of Dhandari in Ludhiana, a 50-year-old man from Prem Nagar in Khanna and an 82-year-old man from Krishna Nagar in Khanna.
The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said that 1,14,981 samples had been collected in the district to date. Today, the reports of 258 persons came positive. Of them, 208 belonged to Ludhiana district while the rest were from other districts or states.
A total of 9,427 Covid-positive cases have been reported in Ludhiana to date. Of them, 7,050 (74.79%) patients have recovered.
Notably, the Ludhiana city areas have been badly hit by the virus. As many as 8,393 confirmed cases and 310 deaths have only been reported in the city sub-division. Besides, 1,034 cases and 40 deaths have been reported in five other subdivisions of Jagraon, Khanna, Payal, Raikot and Samrala.
According to the Health Department, nine patients, five from Ludhiana district and four from the other districts, died of Covid here today.
