Five persons attacked two residents of Amargarh Kaler village in Jagraon allegedly over old political enmity. The victims suffered injuries in the attack.

On the complaint of the complainant, Baldev Singh, a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered against the five unidentified assailants and further investigation was launched by the police in the matter.

The complainant said he was a former sarpanch of the village and he had political enmity with some residents belonging to the opposite party. Last month, his political opponent’s nephew Karanvir Singh had got registered a case against him and his friend Amaninder Singh, alias Babbu, under various sections of the BNS and the Arms Act. Since the case was registered on baseless charges, he had already submitted an application to a senior official of the Ludhiana rural police for a probe into the matter.

The complainant said on October 5, he, along with his friend Amaninder, was going to the house of Gurjit Singh on his Mahindra Scorpio vehicle. On the way, when he stopped the vehicle to answer the nature’s call, Karanvir, Jatinder and three unidentified persons came in a Maruti Brezza vehicle. They were carrying sharp weapons. Before he could understand anything, the suspects attacked him and left him seriously injured. After listening to his shrieks, when his friend Amaninder came to save him, the suspects fled the scene in their vehicle.

He said he informed the police and lodged a formal complaint against the assailants and demanded that the police should arrest the suspects and put them behind bars.
