The Police Division 2 today arrested three suspects who gang-raped a 37-year-old mentally challenged woman. The police cracked the case within 24 hours.

The suspects have been identified as Sourav, alias Sonu, a resident of Janakpuri, Sunil Kumar, alias Chotu, and Daman Sharma, both residents of Janakpuri mohalla. All suspects are daily wagers.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central) Anil Bhanot and Police Division 2 SHO inspector Paramvir Singh addressed a press conference in this regard.

They said on October 17, the victim had gone to market to buy some household items. Later, family of the victim searched for her at various places but to no avail. On October 21, when victim’s kin were searching for her, she was found crying in a park near Cheema Chowk.

The police officials said the suspects had forcibly took the woman to some hotel near Suffian Chowk where they made her to drink alcohol and gang-raped her. So far, the role of three suspects had come to the fore and they were arrested. If some other person was found involved in the case, the police would take action accordingly.

SHO Paramvir Singh, who solved the case, said after the police got to know about the crime, an FIR was lodged and a medical examination of the girl was conducted. Since it was a tough case, the police carried out intensive investigation and after identifying the suspects, nabbed them within 24 hours. Further probe in the case was on and the criminal background of the miscreants was also being checked.
