12 more fall prey to virus in Ludhiana

347 fresh positive cases take tally to 16,051

Today, 347 persons tested positive for Covid and 12 lost their lives to the virus. The number of positive cases from Ludhiana has now gone to 16,051 and the death toll has risen to 658. Thirtyone persons were on ventilator support.

Those who lost their lives include a 32-year-old man from Guru Arjun Nagar, a 49-year-old resident of Giaspura, a 50-year-old man from Arjun Nagar, a 55-year-old man from Model Gram. Five of the deceased were aged 65 years. They belonged to Ayali Kalan, Sandhu Nagar, Guru Nanak Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar and Haibowal Kalan. The others were a 70-year-old woman and an 80-year-old woman from Islam Gunj and Aggar Nagar respectively.

Of those who tested positive, 139 were referred from flu corners and 72 from OPDs. Thirtysix cases surfaced during contact tracing. The patients include 16 healthcare workers and two policemen. Tracing of 79 persons whose report has come positive is in progress.

Dr Rajesh Kumar Bagga, Civil Surgeon of Ludhiana, said people were afraid of getting tested for Covid because they had so many myths and rumours in their mind. Dr Bagga said: “To make society up and running like old days before the Covid outbreak, we have to end this pandemic. Each and every one of us has to contribute to this fight against the virus, and least we can do is follow preventive guidelines issued by the government and get tested for Covid. Testing of Covid-19 is done in government hospitals of the district free of cost.”
