Ludhiana district logs another high, 462 Covid-19 cases, 8 deaths in a day

Ludhiana, August 21
The district saw the highest single-day spike of 462 Covid-19 cases today. Besides, the virus claimed eight more lives in the past 24 hours.
The deceased include a 39-year-old man from Bahadur-Ke Road, a 40-year-old woman from Dhandari Khurd, a 90-year-old man from Mundian Kalan, a 47-year-old resident of Tajpur Road, a 62-year-old man from Jagraon, a 60-year-old resident of Bajra village, a 35-year-old man from Lohara and a 70-year-old resident of BRS Nagar.
Of the 462 infected persons reported today, 117 had influenza-like illness and their cases were reported from flu corners, 129 were contacts of Covid patients and 84 were OPD cases. Besides, the fresh cases included 14 policemen, seven healthcare workers, six travellers, eigh pregnant women and eight undertrials. Three patients were pre-operative cases.
The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said 98,107 samples had been collected in the district to date. There have been a total of 8,148 confirmed cases, of which 5,523 (67.78%) patients have recovered. There are 2,334 active cases in the district.
A maximum of 7,233 confirmed cases have been reported from Ludhiana city. Besides, 915 cases have been reported from other subdivisions, including 271 cases from Jagraon, 113 from Raikot, 274 from Khanna, 100 from Samrala and 157 from Payal.
A total of 288 persons, including 257 from Ludhiana city, nine from Jagraon subdivision, three from Raikot subdivision, eight from Khanna subdivision, six from Samrala subdivision and five from Payal subdivision, have lost their lives to Covid-19.
At present, 24 Covid patients are on ventilators.
