Ludhiana authorities demolish 2 illegal colonies in city outskirts
The Greater Ludhiana Development Authority (GLADA) demolished two unauthorised colonies in Threekay and Jhande villages on the outskirts of Ludhiana on Wednesday, as part of its drive against unauthorized and unplanned development.
A special drive has also been launched to take punitive action against those exploiting innocent residents with promises of cheaper plots in these unauthorised colonies, which lack statutory sanction and compliance with government norms.
The demolition was carried out by a team comprising duty magistrates, police forces, and GLADA enforcement officials, who dismantled roads, boundary walls, passages, sewer manholes, and illegal constructions on the sites. Despite serving notices, developers failed to halt illegal construction, prompting the special team to intervene.
GLADA plans to conduct more demolition drives in the coming weeks to prevent the mushrooming of illegal colonies at the initial stage. It has also appealed to the public to refrain from purchasing properties, plots, or buildings in unauthorised colonies. GLADA will not provide essential facilities like water supply, sewerage, and electricity connections to these areas. To ensure a smooth and secure purchase, prospective buyers can verify the list of approved and regularised colonies, along with their sanctioned maps, on the official GLADA website before buying any property.
Additionally, GLADA has recommended that tehsildars refrain from registering plots in unauthorised colonies and that PSPCL not issue electricity connections to these areas. FIRs will also be filed against developers of unauthorised colonies in Ludhiana district.
