New Delhi, February 13

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has offered only one seat to the Congress in Delhi in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.

Two meetings were held between the Congress and AAP under the INDIA alliance on January 8 and 12 to discuss seat-sharing. On Tuesday, AAP held its Political Action Committee (PAC) meeting to discuss the seat-sharing formula.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak said no meeting was held in the past one month and it was disheartening to see the talks were in progress in this manner.

Pathak said, “During the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, the Congress could not win a single seat in Delhi and in Municipal Corporation elections, out of 250 seats, it won just nine seats. According to this, it should not get any seat. However, since the alliance has to be kept at the forefront than individual parties, we would like to offer one seat to the Congress in Delhi.”

The AAP has announced three candidates in Assam for the General elections – Bhaben Chaudhary from Guwahati, Manoj Dhanowar from Dibrugarh and Rishi Raj from Sonitpur.

Pathak said, “We had two official meetings with the Congress regarding seat-sharing, but there was no result. Besides these two official meetings, no other meeting has taken place in the past one month. We have been waiting for the next meeting, even Congress leaders are not aware of the next meeting. Today, I am sitting here with a heavy heart. We announced three candidates from Assam and I hope the INDIA alliance will accept them.” The party has also announced its candidate from South Goa, Venzy Viegas.

“During the last Assembly elections in the state, AAP did an extremely good job,” the AAP leader said. Similarly, Pathak said AAP had decided to field Chaitar Vasava from the Bharuch constituency in Gujarat and Umesh Makhwana from Bhavnagar. — TNS
