LoP slams AAP govt’s mohalla clinics, calls them a ‘flop show’
The Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the AAP government’s flagship, mohalla clinics, accusing it of mismanagement and corruption. Gupta’s remarks came after he conducted a surprise inspection of a mohalla clinic in Geeta Colony of the Krishna Nagar Assembly constituency.
Gupta called the mohalla clinics a “flop show”, highlighting the lack of basic healthcare facilities and resources at the clinic. “There are no medicines, no doctors, and not even the essential equipment required for basic tests,” Gupta said.
“These clinics were supposed to serve people, but instead, they have turned into a facade. Patients are left with no option but to go to government hospitals for their medical needs.”
“Patients are simply being referred elsewhere because the facilities here are non-existent,” he said. “This is a gross violation of the public’s trust.” Further deepening his criticism, Gupta accused the Delhi Government of widespread corruption within the mohalla clinic programme. “Every month, false registrations of patients are being carried out, leading to the embezzlement of lakhs of rupees,” he said.
Gupta cited a recent investigation report by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which uncovered that between February and December of 2023, 2.2 million tests were conducted at these clinics. Shockingly, 65,000 of these tests were found to be fake, suggesting the registration of ‘ghost patients’ to inflate numbers and misappropriate funds.
