Amid the deceased’s in-laws and maternal family members battling for the custody of her 5-year-old son, the police also approached the SDM court in Sultanpur Lodhi today. The hearing has been scheduled for February 19.

Rajdeep’s mother Nirmal Kaur has alleged that it was Rajdeep’s property in the US which was the cause for her murder.

A 32-year-old transporter based in Stockton, California, Rajdeep owned a seven-room apartment and a fleet of cars. She had a two-storey apartment and two cars. Already running a successful transport business, Rajdeep had also taken a nursing exam in the US, result of which was due in two months.

Nirmal Kaur alleged, “For past one year, her husband had been torturing and asking her to name her property in his name. I even asked her to come to me. But she denied saying her son’s study would be affected. She wanted to be a nurse in the US and said she couldn’t leave everything between.”

Kaur said Rajdeep went to the US in 2002, had a citizenship and got married about nine years ago.

The police said the child was currently living with the relatives of Manjinder.

SSP Vatsala Gupta said, “The Kapurthala police had approached the court regarding the custody of the child. An LOC has been issued against Manjinder and Rajdeep’s in-laws have been remanded to two days in police custody.”

Rajdeep’s mother-in-law Daljeet Kaur and father-in-law Jagdev Singh were arrested by the police on Sunday. On January 27, an FIR was registered against Rajdeep’s husband and his parents under Sections 302, 34 and 120-B of the IPC.
