Devansh Soni, a local resident, has been commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Army. He is among the 491 cadets who passed out from the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, on December 14 and has joined the Mechanised Infantry Regiment.

An alumni of St Kabir Public School, he joined the National Defence Academy after class XII and thereafter opted for the Technical Entry Scheme, following which he graduated from the College of Military Engineering, Pune.

His father is a senior scientist with the Defence Research and Development Organisation and mother a mathematics teacher.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
