Mohali, August 2
SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia today alleged the farm debt waiver amounting to Rs 590 crore announced by the Congress government was turning out to be hoax. He said the government had come out with preconditions which would make a majority of the supposed 2.85 lakh beneficiaries ineligible for the waiver.
Targeting Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Navjot Singh Sidhu, Majithia said he should tell Punjabis why he was patronising the sand and liquor mafia instead of holding them responsible for the scores of deaths and open loot of the state exchequer.
The SAD leader, who was here to attend a party event, also took a dig at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal. He said Kejriwal had adopted double standards on sensitive issues concerning Punjab. He said earlier the AAP chief shed crocodile tears on the issue of Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, but later filed an affidavit in the cour, demanding Punjab water be made available to Delhi and Haryana.
On AAP’s promises, Majithia said in Delhi people were getting a conditional subsidy of 200 units per bill cycle which totaled to Rs 1,000 crore. During Parkash Singh Badal’s tenure, a subsidy of Rs 10,600 crore was given to people.
