Literature Festival begins at Khalsa College in Amritsar
The Amritsar Literature Festival and Book Fair at Khalsa College got off to an enthusiastic start. The event, organised annually for the last nine years, began with an invocation to the Almighty.
Dr Atam Singh Randhawa, Head, Department of Punjabi, and chief organiser of the event, gifted saplings to the guests. Acting principal of the college, Dr Taminder Singh Bhatia, while sharing his views, said that the annual literature fest is gaining popularity with each passing year.
Apart from being a book fair, the event is also used to hold discussions on various topics, he said. This year, the fair is dedicated to the Partition of 1947 and aims to remember the freedom fighters, he pointed out.
In his keynote address, renowned thinker and scholar Amarjeet Singh Grewal spoke about the technological advancements saying that the idea about the importance of education is incorporated in the Gurbani of Sikh Gurus. Knowledge is associated with education and books are the basis of education, he said. Talking about the role of artificial intelligence (AI), he said that its objective is to increase the knowledge of users and help in their quest for knowledge.
Renowned Punjabi actor Gurpreet Ghuggi, while addressing the audience, said that “our culture is based on the concept of word is supreme as enshrined in the Gurbani”.
Chairman of Punjab Kala Parishad, Chandigarh, Swarnjit Singh Savi expressed his views about the importance of books on the occasion.
Dr Mehal Singh, Vice-chancellor, Khalsa University, said that a person should gain knowledge from books and use it for the development of their personality.
Listing achievements of the university, he said that the institute apart from imparting education is always undertaking social and literary activities.
