Linesman electrocuted on power pole in Kharar
Mohali, July 5
A contractual linesman (CHB) was electrocuted on a power pole near Hospital Road in Kharar this evening, leading to widespread resentment among contract employees. They stopped work and staged a protest at the spot, prolonging the outage in the area.
Deceased Satwinder Singh (27), a resident of Mehtabgarh, was electrocuted while fixing a fault. Local residents raised the alarm and cut off the supply to rescue Satwinder. The residents said they kept waiting for the ambulance for 30 minutes even though it was parked barely 200 meter away. “Finally, the deceased was taken to the Kharar Civil Hospital in a truck,” said passersby. The doctors declared him dead on arrival. Officials of the Electricity Department were tight-lipped about the incident.
On Thursday, a 21-year-old labourer was electrocuted and another injured after the iron bars they were carrying fell on a naked wire on the first floor of the shop in Trivedi Camp, Dera Bassi, around 1 pm. Avnish Kumar of Badaun, UP, fell off the building while Kush was flung away after the iron bars they were carrying unbundled suddenly. Both were rushed to the Dera Bassi Civil Hospital where the doctors declared Avnish.
