Likely to upset Congress prospects in Ahirwal: Experts

The resignation of Ahir stalwart and former minister Capt Ajay Singh Yadav from primary membership of the Congress has come as a bolt from the blue for the party and his supportes.

Yadav, a six-time Congress MLA, was national chairman of OBC Department of the party. His son Chiranjeev Rao lost to BJP’s Laxman Singh Yadav by a margin of over 28,000 votes in Rewari.

Yadav was the strong contender for the party ticket from Gurugram parliamentary constituency but the Congress fielded Bollywood actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar, who lost to BJP’s Rao Inderjit.

“It will be a major setback for the Congress if Yadav’s resignation is accepted as the Congress is struggling to strengthen its base in the region,” said Ajay Kumar, a political observer. Naresh Chauhan, another political analyst, said, “Yadav’s resignation from the party will definitely upset the prospect of the Congress in Ahirwal. It needs to be assessed what forced him to put in his papers.”
