Gurnaaz Kaur

Punjabi movie Majnoo is a love triangle and those giving the three dimensions to the story are Preet Baath, Kiran Shergill and Sabby Suri. The movie adds a new element to their career graphs too. It’s for the first time that Preet, Kiran and Sabby are doing a romantic film. Preet, who has made a place for himself in the industry as an action hero, looks at it as an opportunity to do some comedy and show his loving side to the audience. “My character is with two women simultaneously. I can’t say he is cheating on anyone but he is also aware of what he is doing, yet he is innocent.” If this is sounding confusing, Preet is convinced that when you watch the movie, it will all make sense!

Directed by Suzad Iqbal Khan, who has assisted Ram Gopal Verma in the past and had only directed Hindi movies before Majnoo, forays into Punjabi cinema. Likewise, Kiran too is a newcomer. She began her film career with this project and it’s more like homecoming for her. “I am from Mohali but was living in Mumbai since 2013. I’ve acted in TV serials and music videos, and this is my first film. Although post-production delayed its release and in between my second film Siyasat streamed on Zee5, but I still call Majnoo my film debut.”

Happy team

To feature as lead in a Punjabi film is a matter of pride for Kiran. And Sabby, who too has shifted base to Mumbai, shares the same sentiments. “The director was looking for someone fair and tall to play an NRI in the film and I cleared the look test. I play the parallel lead in Majnoo and it was real fun working in this movie. Preet has such a good sense of humour that we would keep laughing while working. Kiran is also a sweet person. There was no competition between us as lead actresses. We worked as one team.”

Preet is busy showcasing multiple shades of acting by choosing diverse subjects. He says, “With each new project that I sign, I intend to bring to the audience an actor who tries and does all kinds of roles. In this one, they will see me doing some comedy, some serious emotions, showing internal conflicts of a young boy.”

Kiran, on the other hand, is excited to be getting work in Punjabi movies with another project in her kitty. “After almost 10 years of hard work, I’ve reached a point in my career where I am being offered lead roles in films. To be able to work in Punjabi gives me great satisfaction.”

Mumbai calling

Sabby has her mind in Mumbai, where she thinks opportunities are aplenty. “I’ve always wanted to be an actor. I love Punjabi films and would continue to work in them, but I also want to try Hindi cinema. I think because I was in Mumbai, I got an ad with Bobby Deol. Soon, I have a song releasing with Terence Lewis. I often get modelling assignments too. More than anything else, we can keep improving our skills as so many workshops in acting, dancing, action and more are organised in Mumbai.”

Bigger plans for a better future, these actors are on their way to leave an impression with Majnoo!
