Sheetal & Gurnaaz

Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk took Chandigarh by storm when they decided to showcase their romance and bromance on Wednesday. Dressed in ethnic Punjabi attire, they soaked in the Punjabi culture in every way possible. Their first halt was Gurdwara Sahib, followed by a lunch at Sethi Dhaba, and, not to be missed, was their grip over Punjabi language, which they flaunted during this interaction.

If there is a film in which I am donning the khaki uniform, it is a matter of pride for me. That’s my reward and all that matters to me. Vicky Kaushal

Wearing an asymmetrical blue kurta with white straight pants, Vicky was in the mood to kill with his looks as well as candid answers. To be in a film with not one but two lead heroes, does that dent their star power? Vicky made it clear, “It’s a dated concept to think of someone as your competition. Ego never serves anyone. If the film is good, you will be remembered forever.”

When I started, I had never thought I would get to work in Bollywood. People have been kind and sweet. It is a blessing that I kept meeting lovely people through the journey; they have made all the difference. Triptii Dimrii

Vicky then focused on the subject of the film. “We were very clear about what we were making. We made sure that every character, not just the three of us, but whoever is in the movie, comes out as a star in their own right.”

The success of Sam Bahadur soon became the topic of discussion. To anyone who said it couldn’t do well because of Animal, Vicky shared, “That’s not what the numbers say. Both the films did well. In fact, the kind of exhibition power we have in the country, two or even three films can do well simultaneously.”

All said and done, numbers don’t define success for this actor when he wears the uniform. “If there is a film in which I am donning the khaki uniform, it is a matter of pride for me. That’s my reward and all that matters to me.”

Coming back to working with multiple stars, Vicky said, “There is only one star, which is the script. The audience is very intelligent and will only come to the theatres to watch a film that has a strong script. We are lucky that Anand Tiwari-backed Bad News has a good script. The star on the sets concept never served anybody, and to be an artiste you have to move past your egos.”

About renowned singer Gurdas Maan, he said, “I have always seen Gurdas Maan as an inspiration. If I would become just one or even half per cent of him in my life, it would be great. Whenever I meet him, I feel like I have visited a temple. He has so much ruhaniyat, divinity and positive energy that you are content around him, like you have achieved everything. My parents have the same emotions for him and when I say this, I feel like I am speaking for every Punjabi globally.”

The censor board has struck down seven minutes from the film, but Vicky has no qualms about it.

Leading lady

From being a YouTube artiste to becoming a lead actress in a Bollywood film, Triptii Dimri has many things to be grateful for and she says it all with a smile. “When I started, I had never thought I would get to work in Bollywood. People have been kind and sweet. It is a blessing that I kept meeting lovely people through the journey; they have made all the difference.”

If the songs have caught your fancy, thanks to her sizzling presence, she says, “If the romance has made you wonder what it is all about, I’ll share a secret. You are going to witness another level of chemistry between Vicky and Ammy. Then you’ll know how I’ve approached the movie.”

Hoping for Bad Newz to be a hit, Triptii says a film is successful, “When people address me as my characters. Even today in Kashmir, they call me Laila. I now want people to call me Sonali, the name of my character in this one.”

Bromance

Clad in a white kurta-pyjama and a shawl to go with, Ammy Virk shared how in the film Vicky Kaushal essayed a fun character while his was a more serious role initially. “But being a Punjabi, the makers couldn’t help notice how I matched the vibe of Vicky’s character. The same bromance is what people are appreciating after watching the trailer. To be honest, they changed my whole character after seeing me perform because it didn’t match the energy that I later added to the narrative.”

Ammy also highlighted how he was angry after he was not called for the shoot of the song Tauba Tauba. “I got to know that Vicky and Karan Aujla were on the sets to shoot Tauba Tauba, the poster song of the film. Truth be told, I was a little angry why the makers didn’t call me and could not understand the reason behind it. But when I saw the choreography, I was happy that they didn’t. It wasn’t my cup of tea at all!”
