Music understands me, says Samer Singh Dawar
Tell us about your journey from London to Mumbai.
When I went to London, it was a step closer to this industry as I had an agreement with my dad that I would first do my MBA and then I live my dreams. However, I lost my dad back in 2016 and I was left without a path to proceed. So, I decided that along with doing my MBA and part-time job, I would also start doing something regarding my dream.
How did you get your first break?
My first break as a model happened when a magazine team asked me to walk for a fashion week. The break in the music industry happened with a dance number called Love Flings.
Music came to your life quite early. Please throw some light on that.
I was a part of my school band for three-and-a half years. I used to play various instruments like the piano, drums, euphorbium and the trumpet.
How important is music in your life?
For me, music is like a heartbeat. It’s my motivation and my meditation. I like to believe that I understand music quite well and that it understands me.
Tell us about your Hollywood experience?
My Hollywood experience has been magical. Every time, I was on the sets in Hollywood, I learnt something new. I was with Tom Holland and the entire crew at Warner Bros. Studios and we saw the multiple lenses. Being an alumnus of Pinewood Studio, I got lucky to be a part of more projects, not just in front of the camera but behind it as well. I was on the sets of Wonder Woman and Pokemon: Detective Pikachu.
How was it working with Srishti Jain in Tujhe Dhunde Meri Jaan?
Shooting with Srishti was an amazing experience. She is so warm and charming, on and off screen. Srishti is far more experienced, compared to me as she has done a couple of projects as lead. I never felt like a newcomer on the sets.
What is the USP of a good music video?
Without getting into technicalities, if a song is nice and the video is visually appealing with good performance by the actors, it’s a done deal.
What are your goals now?
I am ambitious and I see my career trajectory going forward like Priyanka Chopra. She paved the path for Indian actors like us to be global and forced the Hollywood industry to regard us as serious actors. That is my dream, to become a global actor.
What is your idea of fitness?
As a child, I used to drink coke and other fizzy beverages every day. I was obese and unhealthy. So, if we educate our children at a young age, they won’t be facing issues similar to what many are facing today.
