Giving back to society
While giving has been always been part of life for actress Rubina Bajwa, with her partner Gurbaksh Chahal she is now taking it a step ahead. Based out of Hong Kong, the duo is working relentlessly towards fighting COVID-19. Chahal Foundation has so far delivered FFP2, FFP3 masks, N95 respirators, rapid test kits, protective goggles, nitrile gloves, disposable gowns w/ ICU belt, ventilators and thermometers across the globe. Their latest step in the direction is to provide rapid testing kits in Punjab.
Chahal Foundation works towards creating awareness, helping victims of racial abuse and disaster relief. The Foundation is matching a dollar with a dollar, one rapid testing kit to one rapid testing kit and in two days of starting the initiative, they have raised 10,000 dollars while inching towards their aim of raising 100, 000 dollars. “Punjab is standing on the verge of stage three. What really helps is testing. Somehow there is a delay in the testing process, so we are hoping to provide testing kits that Punjab badly needs,” says Gurbaksh, who belongs to the US. “I am learning on how to give back from Gurbaksh, since both of us are from Punjab; we really want to help in tough times. Punjab has given me much love, I owe my career to the state,” Rubina chips in.
While Hong Kong is under lockdown since January, and the world has lately come to a standstill, Rubina has joined work with Gurbaksh and is also learning how to cook. “I have been craving for my favourite food — butter chicken — left with no options, I had to learn cooking.” In fact, watching, cooking and eating is what Bajwa sisters are up to in the days of lockdown. “Everyone’s home, I was just on a group call with my sisters; Neeru had ordered Indian food, my other sister was having it too.”
