The coronavirus or COVID-19 outbreak around the world is taking a toll on people. Amidst all the scare mongering through fake news and myths about the pandemic, World Health Organisation’s Director- General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has launched the Safe Hands Challenge to educate people about the importance of hygiene.
The official Twitter handle of WHO shared the video post lead by Tedros himself on last Friday, “Here are simple things we each must do to protect ourselves from #COVID19, including hand washing with soap and water or alcohol-based rub. WHO is launching the #SafeHandsChallenge to promote the power of clean hands to fight #coronavirus. Join the challenge and share your hand washing video! #safehandschallenge.
Responsible citizens
Deepika Padukone and Sachin Tendulkar were the first ones to support the cause in India. Sachin shared a video message and his hand wash routine with a post written both in Hindi and English on his Instagram and Twitter handle, “As citizens, we have to act responsibly.? ?We could follow simple steps to keep the corona virus at bay.? ?It is my request to everyone to follow basic guidelines to try our best to ensure we all stay safe. #IndiaFightsCorona; to ensure that COVID-19 doesn’t spread any further, all of us can do just an easy task of cleaning our hands. Wash your hands with soap properly for at least twenty seconds. #safehandschallenge @unicef @who”.
Deepika, on the other hand, went down to her wash basin in a face mask and showed the world how it is done. She thanked @DrTedros for nominating her for the #SafeHands Challenge and wrote, “#COVID19 surely is an uphill health and public safety task, but all of us are in this fight together! I further nominate @rogerfederer, @Cristiano and @imVkohli to take up this challenge! ”

Ekta Kapoor shared not only her quarantine look but a video of washing her hands as well her arm loaded with accessories. As nominated by Smriti Irani, she accepted the challenge and wrote, “Here it is @smritiiraniofficial I accept ur #safehandschallenge I nominate @anitahassanandani @rheakapoor @imouniroy @divyankatripathidahiya ! PS: due to my ring bracelet filled hands it takes me a whole minute plus an additional layer of sanitizer. And don’t mind the hair, it’s my quarantine look”
Glam it up
This anti-corona challenge acquired the glam quotient as the leading lady of the band, Pussycat Dolls, Nicole Scherzinger shared a video of hand washing in the PVC outfit. With the video, she writes, ‘Stay safe and wash those hands dolls! Splashing #SafeHands #HandwashChallenge.
Stay strong
Arnold Schwarzenegger is constantly updating his videos and pictures to help his fans stick to the ‘stay at home’ campaign. In self-quarantine at home, he too posted a video on safe hands challenge and wrote, “I tried to do a hand-washing tutorial for Cherry (his dog), but I think you guys will pay more attention. Be safe.”
Sing along
Terry Crews, who is known for his role in Brooklyn Nine Nine, shared his hand wash video. While washing his hands, he sang the song, I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor. He captions the video, “Not today, Satan! I will survive!”
