The Indora Education Society (regd), with the help of the local community, has set up a library at the Indora SDM office to help the youth in this backward area to prepare for competitive exams.
The project is the brainchild of Somil Gautam, who has recently joined his first posting as the SDM, Indora.
Talking to The Tribune, the SDM said he was startled to see poor academic atmosphere and educational backwardness when he joined here in July this year.
Local MLA Reeta Dhiman recently dedicated the library to the local youths. The MLA expressed hope that the initiative would benefit several youths from the region.
Sources said the SDM mooted the idea of opening a multi-purpose library two months ago, and approached the owners of various career-making academies outside the state, local government officials, social organisations and prominent residents from the Indora area. He got monetary assistance and books required for competitive examinations. The library was then set up on the first floor of the SDM office. Arrangements have been made for Internet and printer facility, canteen and separate toilets for boys and girls. A fee of Rs 100 per month or Rs 800 annual fee is being charged from each beneficiary.
