Cong must empower new leaders
Refer to ‘Charisma vs crisis’; reviving the Congress is a monumental task that requires far more than Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s personal appeal. Her charisma may be an important asset, but it needs to be complemented by visionary leadership, strategic reforms and a well-organised grassroots network. The Congress must embrace ideological clarity, empower new leaders and modernise its approach to campaign management. Without these changes, Priyanka’s efforts may falter against the entrenched dominance of the BJP and the rise of regional parties. The challenge for Priyanka and the Congress is to move beyond symbolic politics and build a sustainable movement that resonates with India’s electorate.

Dynastic edge for Priyanka
Apropos of ‘Charisma vs crisis’; the Congress has every reason to rejoice at the emphatic victory of Priyanka Gandhi, but it is a fact that the demography of the constituency played a dominant role in her success. The party is facing repeated setbacks and has pinned high hopes on her for the revival of its fortunes. A dynastic edge made it easy for her to reach Parliament, but hereafter she would have to prove her capabilities and political acumen. She would have to shun being a part-time politician as she carries a huge responsibility and the party is looking up to her with great expectations. Only time will tell how much she can deliver.

Congress at a crossroads
With reference to ‘Charisma vs crisis’; while Priyanka Gandhi’s landslide victory in Wayanad could be a significant moment in her political career, it may not, by itself, come to the immediate rescue of the Congress. Her win further exemplifies the continued dominance of dynastic politics in the grand old party. However, Priyanka may eventually prove to be a big asset for the party. She should ensure that her party urgently sheds its archaic approach of frequently taking convenient shelter behind alibis.

Pakistan must address issues
Apropos of ‘Pak crackdown’; the suppression of dissent, curtailment of press freedom and disregard for civil liberties may offer temporary control, but history teaches us that such measures only deepen societal fractures and hinder long-term progress. Pakistan stands at a crossroads, grappling with political instability, economic hardships and social unrest. True solutions lie not in silencing voices but in fostering dialogue, ensuring justice and addressing the root causes of discontent. A transparent, inclusive approach that respects democratic principles can restore trust and pave the way for sustainable development. A nation’s strength lies in the unity and empowerment of its people, not in their silencing.

Both sides must foster dialogue
With reference to ‘Pak crackdown’; the ongoing political turmoil in Islamabad has once again highlighted the consequences of poor political strategies and governance and short-sighted policies. That Imran Khan’s party PTI chooses the path of protest marches every time to press for its demand to free its jailed leader, is regrettable. The state should not weaponise the law and quell dissent. With the law and order situation taking a battering, it’s time for both the PTI and the government to opt for a lawful give and take. Suppressing peaceful protests weakens democracy. Both sides must show responsibility and engage in a meaningful dialogue.

Safeguarding India’s secular fabric
Refer to ‘Don’t let hate-mongers run riot’ (Trysts and Turns); the article is a sobering reminder of the dangers posed by divisive rhetoric. Driven by a political agenda, majoritarianism threatens to erode India’s secular fabric and societal harmony. When hate-mongers exploit religion to sow seeds of division, the very democratic foundations of our nation are undermined. Therefore, it is the moral responsibility of every citizen to uphold the values of tolerance and unity. Hate-mongering must be unequivocally condemned in all its forms to ensure that India remains a shining example of secularism and democracy even in these turbulent times.
