A leopard attacked a six-year-old boy at his house in Buanda village near Chowai in Anni subdivision on Wednesday. It, however, ran away after the neighbours gathered and tried to shoo it away. The injured child was rushed to the Anni hospital where his condition is said to be stable.
The incident took place in the evening when his mother was doing some chores and the boy was standing alone on the door.
Earlier, a leopard had mauled a three-year-old girl in the Chowai area in April. There is an atmosphere of panic among villagers as this is the second such incident in a few months. They appealed to the Forest Department to catch the feline at the earliest.
Anni Divisional Forest Officer Chander Bhushan said a cage would be laid to trap the leopard.
