Legislature’s role important in democratic set-up: Himachal Speaker Kuldeep Pathania

In the democratic system, the role of legislature is important. This was stated by Speaker, Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Kuldeep Singh Pathania while addressing a training programme of the members elected for the first time to the 14th Legislative Assembly.

The training programme was organised at Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Secretariat here today.

Pathania said a lot had changed with time and technology had changed all systems. “Today, the public has also become aware and keeps track of their representatives,” he said.

“The training programme is important for the members where they will gain knowledge of the democratic system and also the functioning of the Vidhan Sabha, its activities, committee system and e-Vidhan system,” the Speaker said.

During the training programme, the Speaker answered the questions raised by the members.

He also reminded the members that the Council Chamber has a glorious history. “It was constructed between 1920 and 1925 as the National Assembly. This House has been adorned by great personalities like Vitthalbhai Patel, Motilal Nehru and Lala Lajpat Rai. The proposal for the right to vote for women was brought in this House itself, was introduced and passed. This House has been a witness to many historical events,” he said.
