A number of recently-promoted lecturers seeking allotment of stations have accused authorities in the Education Department of harassing them by not uploading lists of available stations on the portal for their posting post promotion.

They have also urged the state government to restore vacancies which had been abolished on varied grounds in the past.

In a letter addressed to higher authorities including the CM and Punjab Education Minister, lecturers led by Mandeep Sekhon have said the personnel in the department had not uploaded a list of schools where vacancies of specific subjects existed. This was being done with ulterior motives to make transfers through corrupt practices, the lecturers alleged.

The affected lecturers have also sought intervention of legislators of the region for taking up their issue with authorities of the department.

Lecturers rued the government had also failed to restore posts of lecturers for various subjects which were removed due to varied reasons earlier.

“For instance, some posts were removed due to low strength of students at a particular school. The department should restore these posts as the number of students of a particular subject have fallen as there was no lecturer of that particular subject at the school,” said Sekhon, maintaining that filling of vacancies would also encourage more students to adopt a particular subject.

MLA Dakha Manpreet Singh Ayali assured the lecturers that besides taking up the issue with the Education Minister, he would also meet authorities in the education department for resolving the issue.
