Lawyers protest over woman advocate’s murder in Gurugram
Lawyers of Gurugram took to the streets on Wednesday after a woman lawyer, Sarita (24), was found dead with her throat slit in Rewari. The lawyers, under the banner of Gurugram District Bar Association, staged a protest and gave a memorandum to the Police Commissioner, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.
The body of the victim, Sarita, was thrown on the banks of the canal on Ramgarh-Kumbhawas road in Rewari on Monday. After taking the body into custody, an FIR of murder was registered at the Sadar police station, Rewari. However, the accused are still on the run. Sarita used to practice at Pataudi court and she had got married nearly 7-8 months ago.
While protesting, senior advocate Anju Rawat Negi said an advocate, Naveen Yadav, was also murdered some years ago and now a woman lawyer was killed. He said this had created a strong sense of resentment among lawyers. “We demand the immediate arrest of the killer. For the security of the advocates, the Advocate Protection Act should be implemented as soon as possible,” added Negi. “We met Police Commissioner Vikas Kumar Arora, who gave us the assurance that the accused would be nabbed within 24 hours,” said advocate Kulbhushan Bhardwaj, former president of the District Bar Association.
