Lawyers under the banner of the local Bar Association observed "no-work day" on Wednesday in support of their demand for a new judicial complex at Phagwara and protested against the delay in the renovation of the existing complex.

Karanjot Singh Jhikka, president of the association, said they had submitted numerous representations and applications to the authorities concerned, but nothing had been done about the deteriorating condition of the court complex, which was posing a challenge for lawyers and litigants, and was coming in the way of the administration of justice.

"The Bar Association has consistently followed up with the authorities, yet all representations have been ignored, leaving us with no option but to express our strong resentment," said Jhikka.

Senior lawyer Lalit Chopra said the protest was meant to draw the government's attention to their genuine demand.
