Raids were conducted on Sunday night at a number of paying guests (PG) at Sriganganagar in Rajasthan following a tip-off from the Delhi Police's Special Cell that had arrested seven suspected shooters linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

More than 20 persons, including some from Jammu and Kashmir, have been picked up for questioning, police sources said.

As per information coming from the Special Cell of the Delhi Police, five criminals associated with the Bishnoi gang had done a recce twice to target Sunil Pehalwan, nephew of former MLA Raj Kumar Gaur in Sriganganagar. Three shooters reportedly stayed in Sriganganagar for several days.

The Special Cell has reportedly recovered a GPS tracking device from a suspect who was receiving instructions reportedly from Arzoo Bishnoi, a former member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang who is now working independently.

The first team of the gang consisting of shooters Badal, Sandeep and Pramod did a recce around Sunil Pehalwan's house. Shooters Sahil and Amar of another team took the responsibility of recce later.

On October 29 last year, Sunil Pehalwan had received a death threat from a gangster. On his complaint, the Sadar police station had registered a case and conducted an investigation.

Pehalwan had told the police that he got a call on his mobile. The caller threatened him not to act against the gang conduits, otherwise he would be eliminated. The police had tried to trace the call, but the investigation could not progress further.

The police said Sukh Ram, a native of Hanumangarh, had stayed in a PG accommodation in Purani Abadi area in Sriganganagar for three days and along with other boys, he had conducted a recce of Pehalwan's house and his office area.

Speaking to the media, Pehalwan alleged that a local politician who had major stakes in mining during the previous government in Punjab had been supporting the members of the gang due to rivalry with his uncle Raj Kumar Gaur.

Superintendent of Police Gaurav Yadav said that a team would be sent to Delhi to discuss the matter further.
