In compliance with New Education Policy-2020, a two-day lecture series on ‘Law and Society’ concluded at University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University Swami Sarvanand Giri Regional Centre, Hoshiarpur.
Professor Vijay Nagpal, former Chairperson, Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was the keynote speaker.
Convenor Dr Sunaina, Coordinator (Law); and Dr Deep Chand (Co-convenor) welcomed the guest with a sapling. Prof Nagpal delivered a talk on ‘Law of Crimes’, and highlighted the pros and cons of the changes incorporated.
He discussed various sections of IPC viz-a-viz BNSS.
He said a motive was always behind the crime, be it revenge, greed, etc. There were three stages of crime — first was intention stage, where a person thought of committing the crime. Other was guilty mind, which could either be intentional or a reckless behaviour, and, finally, the attempt stage, if attempt stage was successful, it is a crime, if not, there was no crime, he added.
The session ended with an open house discussion with the speakers. In the end, the convenors presented a memento to the guest and proposed a vote of thanks.
