Chandigarh, October 5
A delegation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on its way to Lakhimpur Kheri to offer condolences to the families of the four farmers killed in Sunday’s violence was stopped and detained by the Uttar Pradesh police, the party said on Tuesday.
The delegation, led by AAP Punjab affairs co-in-charge Raghav Chadha and Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema, included MLAs Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Baljinder Kaur, and Amarjit Singh Sandoa, a press release from the party said.
Sandhwan was stopped at a checkpoint at Atariya village in Sitapur district when he was on his way to Lakhimpur Kheri from Lucknow. The rest of the delegation was stopped at checkpost set up by Nighasan police station about 10 km from the village, the press note said. They were detained after Chadha and his party leaders got into an argument with the police, the press note said.
“We have read in the pages of history that under dictator Adolf Hitler’s rule in Germany, the people were put to death in a gas chamber by releasing poisonous gas. Similarly, today in the country, the attempt to crush and trample the farmers was done by the Bharatiya Janata Party and its leaders,” Chadha said, demanding the immediate arrest of Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra’s son Ashish and the union minister’s resignation.
AAP delegation is now being taken to an undisclosed location. They are not letting us meet the family. We are just 15kms away from the bereaved family.
