Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) VK Saxena has directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to intensify efforts to address pending applications under the PM-Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Yojana (PM-UDAY) and streamline new registrations, officials said on Wednesday.

Based on the feedback from his visits to these areas, where residents highlighted the challenges of navigating bureaucratic processes, Saxena reviewed the progress of the PM-UDAY scheme in a meeting on Wednesday, they said.

He directed the DDA to conduct special camps in unauthorised colonies from November 30 to December 31.

An official from the L-G office said, “During the L-G’s visits to unauthorised colonies, residents expressed their struggles with the cumbersome paperwork under the PM-UDAY scheme. There is also a significant lack of awareness and outreach, depriving eligible beneficiaries of their rights. The L-G has taken a serious view of this and directed the DDA to act swiftly in a mission mode.”

The camps, which will be set up at locations such as Sant Nagar, Burari, Mukundpur, Ganesh Nagar and Najafgarh, will follow a single-window clearance system to facilitate documentation, uploading documents on the portal, scrutiny, notarisation and on-the-spot application disposal.

“The camps will provide services like receiving new applications, resolving pending deficiencies and assisting with obtaining conveyance deeds or authorisation slips. Area tehsildars, SDMs and probationary officers will ensure prompt action,” the official added.

In addition to 22 DANICS and three IAS probationers leading the effort, 122 PM-UDAY Mitras will engage with applicants before and during the camps to assist with documentation and other processes.

To maximise awareness, the DDA will launch a social media campaign, including WhatsApp group messaging, in collaboration with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs). This will be supplemented with vernacular newspaper advertisements and pamphlets.

“The L-G has emphasised the importance of outreach to ensure eligible residents are aware of and participate in these camps,” another official said.

The DDA teams will also review pending applications before the camps to expedite processing. Camps will include help desks, facilitation centres and adequate refreshment and water arrangements for attendees.
