Two Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni, have bagged awards at the annual zonal workshop of the KVK (zone 1) held at Ludhiana. The KVK at Kandaghat bagged the award for the Best Krishi Vigyan Kendra in the state, while the KVK, Lahaul and Spiti II at Tabo, stood second in the presentation category. Dr DP Sharma, in-charge, KVK, Solan, said the KVK had taken several initiatives in the last few years which helped it bag the award. Last year, the KVK successfully organised three state-level farmer fairs under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan. Vice-Chancellor Dr Parvinder Kaushal has congratulated the officials. KVK, Tabo, is promoting low-cost eco-friendly farming techniques of peas and apples, establishment of high-density apple plantation, value-addition of local products and community approach. The KVK also plans to explore the possibilities of saffron cultivation in the Spiti valley.

Date to apply for TET extended

The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education has extended the last date for applying for the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) and the date for correcting the details in online applications till July 12. The Chairman of the board, Suresh Soni, said the extension had been given in the view of requests from applicants, but no further extension would be given. The TET is being conducted for Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) in medical, non-medical, arts, languages and ‘shashtri’ studies. Earlier, the board had invited applications from June 16 to July 6.

Shoolini varsity pupils get Scholarships

Five students of Shoolini University have won fully-funded scholarship for higher studies abroad. Vanshika Abbhi has been selected by the National Formosa University, Taiwan, for two-year Masters Degree in Biotechnology at US$ 1,600 per semester, while Aanchal Thakur has been selected by the National Taipei University of Technology, Taiwan, for two-year Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering at US$ 1,800 per semester. Taipei Medical University, Taiwan, has picked up Avinash Rangra for four-year PhD Degree in Biotechnology at US$ 2,000 per semester, while Archita and Iffat have been selected by the University of Naples, Italy, for one-year Masters Degree in Medical Biotechnology at €20,000 per year. The students were studying various programmes at Shoolini University, which has signed MoU with these universities. Dr RP Dwivedi, director of international affairs, said, “The aim is to give global exposure to the university students. We also arrange cultural exchange programmes for the faculty as well.”

Auckland house School boys shine

Auckland House School for Boys, Shimla, achieved 100 per cent results in the ICSE Class X examination for the session 2019-20. As many as 32 boys took the exam, of which five students secured more than 90 per cent. Atharva Sharma topped the class with 97.2 per cent, followed by Ujjwal Singh Rajput with 95 per cent, Kunal Verma with 92.02 per cent, Mayank Kashyap with 92.0 per cent and Himanshu Verma with 90.2 per cent.
