Kurukshetra, June 27

Aiming to bring uniformity and increase beautification in the outer area of Brahma Sarovar, the Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB) has decided to provide stainless steel carts to vendors at subsidised prices as part of its vending zone project.

The board has 50 stainless steel carts for food and souvenir items at a cost of over Rs 50 lakh.

Will improve sales

Besides bringing uniformity and attraction, the board aims to strengthen the financial condition of the vendors. With the new vending zone, everything will be standardised. It will attract tourists and help vendors improve their sales. Madan Mohan Chhabra, Honorary Secy, KDB

While each cart costs around Rs 1 lakh, the board will provide these to the vendors, who have been setting their carts outside Brahma Sarovar for many years, at a cost of Rs 20,000 each.

As per the information the vendors have to pay the amount in a single instalment. A budget provided by the Power Grid Corporation Limited under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme has been used for the vending zone project.

An official said lakhs of tourists reach Brahma Sarovar and the board is making efforts to create an ambience in and around the Brahma Sarovar.

The vending zone with standardised carts will bring uniformity and help beautify the area more.

The carts arrived more than a month ago and are parked at Sri Krishna Museum. The project has got delayed due to various reasons. A work order is to be given to create designated areas for the carts.

The honorary secretary of the board, Madan Mohan Chhabra, said: “Besides bringing uniformity and attraction, the board aims to strengthen the financial condition of the vendors. Currently, the vendors set up their stalls as per their wish, but with a new vending zone, everything will be standardised. It will attract tourists and help vendors in improving their sales as well.”

Besides carts, the board had bought 375 twin dustbins for the outer area to keep it clean. The installation work had started, Chhabra added.

“The board has 50 stainless steel carts. While each cart costs around Rs 1 lakh, the beneficiaries will be provided the same at Rs 20,000. Carts will be non-transferable. As per the list prepared, there are around 80 vendors who have been setting up their stalls in the outer area and are eligible to get the carts. They will be given individual notices and asked to apply. If the applications go over 50, the board will buy more,” he added.
