Kurukshetra, July 9
The district administration has begun looking for suitable land on which to build a waste-to-energy plant, also known as a waste management plant, to process the district’s municipal waste.
Currently, collected waste is sent to a plant in Karnal, but the district administraion has been asked to establish its own plant at the earliest.
According to the information, the deadline to stop sending waste to Karnal was June 30, but has been extended to July 31. An official stated, “Previously, a plot was identified, but due to opposition from residents, the plan was dropped, and search has now begun to find suitable land again. The secretaries of Shahabad and Pehowa civic bodies and the District Revenue Officer (DRO) were directed to locate any government land in the district on which the plant could be built.”
The plant will not only assist the district in resolving its waste management issues, but will also help improve its Swachh Survekshan ranking. District Municipal Commissioner (DMC) Vaishali Sharma stated, “We have information of a plot in Shahabad. We’ll visit the site on Wednesday, and if everything goes well, the land will be prepared for the project in a few days.” She added every effort was being made to establish a waste-to-energy plant in the district itself. “
