Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Sunder Singh Thakur was the chief guest at the mini marathon organised on the sixth day of the 73rd Wildlife Week by the Wildlife Wing of the Forest Department here today.

About 150 students from various schools participated in the 4-km

marathon, held from Forest Colony, Dhalpur, to Nature Park, Mohal.

The CPS said the event was organised as an effort for human-wildlife coexistence. “Various efforts are being made by the government to conserve the environment and maintain ecological balance to preserve the natural

habitat of wild animals,” he added. In the boys’ category, Rohit Thakur of Boys Government Senior Secondary School, Kullu, stood first, while Ayush Thakur of Government Senior Secondary School, Bhutti, bagged the second place and Anurag Thakur of GSSS, Kullu, secured the third.

Sakshi, Sonia Thakur and Kiran Thakur of Girls Government Senior Secondary School, Sultanpur, stood first, second and third respectively in the women’s category.

The CPS distributed prizes to all winners and congratulated all participants. He also called upon all the students to come forward to contribute to the conservation of wildlife and to spread awareness about the coexistence of humans and wildlife.

Kullu Conservator of Forests Sandeep Sharma welcomed the chief guest and the participants. Kullu Wildlife Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Kullu DFO Angel Chauhan, Parbati DFO Praveen Kumar and other departmental officers and employees were among those present at the marathon.
