KIUG: Chitkara University win twin gold in table tennis

Chitkara University paddlers won gold medals in both men and women categories during the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) at Assam.
In the men’s final, the university claimed the top podium position by logging a 3-0 win over Chandigarh University, Gharuan. Meanwhile, the women’s team recorded an identical 3-0 win over Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women’s University, Mumbai, to win the top position.
The men’s team won their third consecutive gold medal in the KIUG. The team had won the first title in the Bengaluru edition, followed by another in Lucknow last year. In the women’s category, the university won their first ever gold.
In the men’s final, Yashansh Malik won the first match by defeating Khelendrajit Yengkhom 14-12 11-8 11-7. Wesley Do Rosario extended the lead to 2-0 by logging a hard-earned 11-5 11-8 9-11 11-9 win over Chinmaya Somaiya. In the final game, Raegan Albuquerque easily overpowered Divyansh Srivastava 11-3 11-9 11-2 to clinch the title.
In the women’s final, Suhana Saini gave the university a perfect start by logging an 11-2 11-6 11-8 win over Swapnali Narale. Anjali Rohilla successfully doubled the lead by defeating Samruddhi Kulkarni 12-10 11-6 11-6. In the last match, Lakshita Narang faced some resistance from Dhanashri Pawar before logging a 11-4 10-12 11-5 13-11 victory to ensure the first ever gold for the side.
