The auspicious occasion of Gurpurab was celebrated with fervour at Lawrence School, Sanawar, on Friday. The school observed the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev with reverence and enthusiasm.

At the break of the dawn, some students visited the local gurdwara at Garkahl to bring the Holy Guru Granth Sahib to the school premises for celebrating the Parkash Purab. Students and staff gathered at the Som Dutt Sports Centre to offer prayers and seek blessings from Guru Nanak Dev.

A group of 12 students from Akal Academy, Baru Sahib, accompanied by their teachers, also joined the celebrations. Harmonious kirtans (devotional hymns), shabads, ardaas and Jap Ji Sahib recital resonated on the school campus creating an atmosphere of peace and devotion. Some students delivered speeches narrating the life and message of Guru Nanak on the occasion.

After the prayer, guru ka langar (community kitchen) was organised during which students and faculty members came together to serve food among those present on the occasion. While addressing the gathering, school headmaster Himmat Singh Dhillon exhorted students to imbibe the message of Guru Nanak. He emphasised on the importance of living with compassion, empathy, and respect for all, regardless of race, religion or background.

“Guru Nanak’s message of ‘Ek Onkar’ — the belief in the oneness of God and all humanity — is more relevant than ever in our global society,” Dhillon said.
