Kiran Chaudhary elected to Rajya Sabha unopposed
Chandigarh, August 27
Kiran Chaudhary of the BJP was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana today, the last date for the withdrawal of candidature.
Kiran was declared elected unopposed, as no opposition party had fielded candidate against her. The seat had fallen vacant after Deepender Hooda won the Lok Sabha election from the Rohtak seat. Kiran will be the Rajya Sabha member for the remainder of Deepender Hooda’s term till April 2026.
Saket Kumar, Returning Officer for the Rajya Sabha elections, handed over the election certificate to Kiran in the presence of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha Gian Chand Gupta and BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli.
After Kiran’s election, all five members of the Upper House from Haryana owe their allegiance to the BJP. While Krishan Lal Panwar, Ram Chander Jangra and Subhash Barala are BJP leaders, Independent member Kartikeya Sharma was elected to the Rajya Sabha with the support of the party.
A four-time MLA from Tosham, Krian had been a minister in the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led government. She had joined the BJP in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP nominated her to the Rajya Sabha and she filed her nomination papers on August 21.
