Kidnapped MBA student rescued, 1 lands in police net
An MBA student was allegedly kidnapped on Thursday night with kidnappers demanding a ransom of Rs 25,000. The accused was arrested by the police when he came to collect the ransom money from the friend of the victim. Later, the police rescued the student but one of the accused managed to flee. An FIR was registered at Sector 56 police station.
The police spotted some people gathered near Sector 57’s Hong Kong Bazar in the wee hours on Thursday. On further enquiry, they told the police that their friend had been kidnapped.One of them, Gaurav Soni, revealed that he received a call from his friend Varun Aggarwal, a native of Jhansi, who lives as a tenant in Sushant Lok 2 and is MBA final year student of ICFAI business school, Gurugram.
Varun made a call to him at around 1:13 am and said that his mother was ill and asked him to deposit Rs 25,000 in his account. Gaurav suspected that Varun was lying as he had talked to Varun’s mother on the phone on Wednesday and she sounded well.
Gaurav Soni told Varun that the server was down and he should collect the money personally, on which Varun said that he was sending his acquaintance with his phone. The person who came to collect the money was caught by the police from the nearby Hong Kong market.
The accused was identified as Shivraj, a resident of Dadrah mohalla, Badshahpur. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had kidnapped Varun and held him hostage in a vehicle in a deserted area near Ullahwas village. The police immediately swung into action.
The police made a call to his partners from Shivraj’s phone and asked them to come to Sector 62 near the red light. After some time, the van arrived at Sector 62 red light. When the police team tried to stop the vehicle, the driver tried to run away. Varun was rescued after stopping the van. Police investigation revealed that the victim Varun had met one of the accused while booking a taxi.
“The man called up Varun and along with his other associates kidnapped him from Sector 57 area on Wednesday night. The person knew that Varun’s father has a good business. We are conducting raids to nab the accused,” said Varun Dahiya, ACP crime.
