To relocate residents of Panipat’s Khukhrana village, the district administration has constituted a four-member committee for giving allotment letters to the allottees. Apart from this, the district administration will hold a draw of lots of 42 plots inside the ‘lal dora’ of the village on March 4.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Virender Kumar Dahiya on Monday held a meeting for shifting of Khukhrana village. Rajya Sabha MP Krishan Lal Panwar was also present at the meeting.

Dahiya directed the officials to visit the new site for the relocation of Khukhrana and submit a detailed report to Panipat SDM Mandeep Kumar.

The DC said the draw of lots for 402 plots had already been conducted and the sewerage work was not yet complete. He directed the officials that toilets should be constructed at the new village site.

Dahiya said the four-member committee comprising the District Revenue Officer (DRO), District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO), Tehsildar and Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) had been constituted. The committee would give the signed letters to the allottees by March 15, he said.

It is expected that all work related to electricity, potable water supply, sewerage will be completed by March 15, then the villagers will be shifted by March 31, the DC claimed.

The district administration has acquired 40 acres to relocate Khukhrana village near Sodhapur village, located near the Panipat Thermal Power Station.

The residents of Khukhrana village were forced to live in pathetic conditions due to air and water pollution caused by the thermal power station and a cement plant.

The water discharged by the thermal plant raised the watertable over the years, causing walls of the houses to develop cracks. Members of every family were suffering from respiratory diseases.
