Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan: Phase-II of block-level games begins
State Cabinet Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa today inaugurated the sports competitions of Hoshiarpur block-1 under the second phase of the block-level competitions of ‘’Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan-2024’’ at Lajwanti Multipurpose Stadium here. Players participated enthusiastically in these games.
On this occasion, the Cabinet Minister emphasised the importance of sports and said this initiative of the Punjab Government was a powerful medium to make the youth aware of sports and to hone their talent. He said sports were not only important for physical and mental development, but they also promoted mutual harmony and unity in society.
The Cabinet Minister said that the aim of the Punjab government was to connect every youth of the state with sports and keep them away from drugs. Through this programme, efforts are being made to get the sports talents hidden at the rural level recognized at the state and national level.
On this occasion, Mayor Surinder Kumar, Senior Deputy Mayor Praveen Saini, Deputy Mayor Ranjita Chaudhary, Hoshiarpur Central Cooperative Bank chairman Vikram Sharma, District Sports Officer Gurpreet Singh Bajwa, Ravinder Singh Ruby, Prof Bahadur Singh Sunet and coach Nitish Thakur were also present.
Jalandhar: With the ongoing ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ set to conclude on Monday, MLA Jalandhar Central Raman Arora visited a few schools of Jalandhar east block in the city to encourage the players.
For two days, the schedule of the games was getting upset because of rains. As it was a clear day today, the grounds were set for the competitions to be held. District Sports Officer Gurpreet Singh said in kho-kho under-14 girls event Sports Club, Hamiri Khera, won the first prize, followed by Government High School Tajpur and St George Convent School.
In kho-kho U-14 boys, Government High School Puranpur was declared first, followed by Sports Club, Hamiri Khera, and Government High School, Tajpur. In Nurmahal block, kho-kho U-14 boys’ events were held in which Government Middle School team of Rajowal came first, followed by Government Middle School, Gudra, and Government Middle School, Talwan.
