Khattar bats for providing 50% help before marriage under vivah shagun yojana
Union Minister of Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, suggested providing at least 50 per cent of the eligible amount to beneficiaries under the Mukhya Mantri Vivah Shagun Yojana on the day of the wedding itself.
“It came to my notice that benefits are given several days after the registration of marriage. I have suggested the officials provide 50 per cent of the amount on the wedding day and the rest of the amount should be given after the marriage. I will suggest the same to the state government to implement it,” said Khattar, while reviewing the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DDCMC–DISHA) at the Mini-Secretariat on Tuesday.
The Haryana Government has launched the scheme for the welfare of daughters belonging to SCs, BCs, widow, divorced, destitute, orphan, tapriwas, BPL families of general castes and others, under which amount as per categories is provided in the form of Shagun at the time of marriage.
While reviewing around 30 agendas related to various departments, Khattar exhorted officials to focus on public service and expedite developmental projects.
He also invited suggestions for improving existing schemes, saying that modifications could be made to ensure better implementation. Highlighting the essence of a welfare state, he noted, “Rules and regulations are created for public welfare. Officials must act as ‘sevaks’ of the public, ensuring timely delivery of benefits to those in need.”
He also inquired about 68 pending projects under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS). Officials assured that 30 projects would be completed within three months and the remaining 38 within six months.
Taking note of delays in the disbursement of funds for toilets in rural areas, the minister directed immediate action. He instructed that funds be transferred between banks on the same day to resolve the issue. For villages yet to be declared ODF Plus, he directed SDMs to resolve land availability concerns promptly.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), officials were instructed to inform beneficiaries about the timeline for house allotment. Karnal district has received 13,098 applications, exceeding the target of 10,393 houses. The minister also reviewed progress under the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana, where 14 out of 60 identified works in 10 villages were complete.
During the review of Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana, the minister directed the authorities to increase the number of kiosks at Karnal's Sanjha Bazaar. He suggested setting up of similar bazaars near railway stations and bus stands to support self-help group (SHG) women.
Under the the Swamitva Yojana, the officials reported 100 per cent mapping completion and resolution of 260 out of 329 complaints. The minister requested detailed data on youth trained under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, noting that 160 of the 665 trained youths had secured jobs.
Khattar also approved the allocation of 160 computers for PM SHRI and Model Sanskriti Schools through CSR funds. He instructed them to make a list of households under the Ujjwala scheme which had not refilled their cylinders even once in a year.
Khattar unveiled statues Bhagwan Parshuram at Mughal Canal, statue of astronaut Kalpana Chawla at Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC), Dr Mangal Sen’s statue at the Dr Mangal Sen auditorium complex. Khattar also inaugurated a newly constructed two-storey multi-purpose hall at Bal Bhawan.
