Rohtak, June 17

The movement against ‘Agnipath’ scheme got a shot in the arm as farmers’ organisations and khap panchayats joined the stir at Rohtak today.

Farm activists led by BKU (Charuni) leader Gurnam Singh Charuni held a day-long fast-cum-protest demonstration in front of the Haryana BJP headquarters located in Rohtak amidst heavy deployment of police personnel on Friday.

A number of students and youths reached the BJP headquarters in open Jeeps and tractor-trailers bearing national flags, raising slogans against the BJP government and Agnipath scheme.

Terming the Agnipath scheme as anti-national and a threat to the country’s security, Charuni demanded its immediate withdrawal. He said they would continue the protests like the farmers’ stir until the move is withdrawn.

Groups of youths staged a protest demonstration near Rajiv Gandhi stadium and blocked Rohtak-Delhi road near Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) gate.

The Haryana state committee of the AIKS has also demanded withdrawal of the Agnipath scheme.
